This time of year, with summer soon to become a memory, we find ourselves wanting to be outside as much as possible and we’re constantly on the lookout for great spots to throw down our picnic blanket and enjoy our meals al fresco! The evenings may be getting a little cooler, and the leaves may be starting to change colour, but we think that first hint of fall foliage makes our picnic spots even more special. Some of the Best Family Biking Trails in Vancouver, Coast & Mountains, British Columbia

Vancouver is known for being a super bike-friendly city. In the past few years the downtown core has enjoyed the addition of dedicated bike lanes and in the summer of 2016 the City of Vancouver introduced Mobi, a public bike-sharing program. There are lots of amazing spots to ride in Vancouver, like the Stanley Park Seawall, Queen Elizabeth Park or Pacific Spirit Park, but I thought I’d share some of our favourite, family-friendly cycling routes from outside Vancouver. Train Spotting: Highway 1 Lytton to Craigellachie, British Columbia, Canada

We decided to stay at the Kumsheen Rafting Resort located a few kilometres east of Lytton in the scenic Thompson River canyon. Here we were well into BC’s semi-desert country with lofty ponderosa pines and tumbleweeds and the wonderful smell of sage. We chose the well-priced “yurt” – the best of both worlds, sleeping in a tent with comfortable bed and solid deck below. We had a fabulous meal on the patio of Cutting Board Restaurant and bonus – we could hear the westbound CPR trains just below the resort as well as the eastbound CNR trains across the canyon.
